Sailing programme for 2009

The race programme for 2009 is slightly shorter than previous years as we have eliminated some of the very early starts which have not been well supported in previous years.

However, by popular demand we have built on the success of last years non racing events and have added some further activities this season. This will include a bring your own picnic after the racing on the 24th of May and culminate in the fun week during August which was deemed a great successs by all involved. There is also a potential days sailing on the Broads in mid July and a club cycle ride (when the tides are poor) in mid August

The tides offer a good opportunity for sailing over the Easter Holiday and the club will start the season with a short training session to introduce the new RYA recommended starting procedure which we are going to adopt this year. Please click on the Race Training link to the left for Sean's accompanying notes on a practicle guide to race starting.

As before we see a return of the Cockles in May and September, the International 14 fixture has moved from its normal autumn slot to the middle of the year.

It is hoped that the RNLI will visit us again this year during July.

Although the North West Norfolk sailing association were keen for us to build on our success during 2008 and provide them with two days racing, regretably the tides only permit a single day during the August week that their event takes place.

The Weekends of the 25th of July and the 8th of August will see the Morston and Blakeney regattas.

A wide variety of boats are sailed by the club. From the sophisticated Phantoms and RS class boats to the more traditional classic lines of the Blakeney One designs and Cockles with their strong association with the North Norfolk coast.

Whatever you sail, the excitement of an early race followed by refreshments in the club house or a relaxing evening sail to the Point with a visit on your return to one of the fine pubs in the village, Blakeney has it all.

The club is keen to encourage new members, if you have not tried racing before, Blakeney is the ideal place to learn. The impression that racing is the domain of the serious expert is just not the case at Blakeney. The spacious harbour is the ideal venue to learn, with safety boat cover and a wealth of local knowledge to tap into why not give it a try. The skills learned will also come in useful for those trips out to see the seals.
