Introduction for the race programme 2008

The race programme for 2008 is as extensive as previous years despite the fact that the tides are a little more difficult this year.  Beside the normal racing activities there are more interesting events during the season.
Last year saw the introduction of races for the Cockle Club and this has been repeated for the 22nd
June and 6th September. Following the success of the previous years the North West Norfolk Week Sailing Association have asked us to host  and additional days sailing so we look forward to seeing their fleet on the 30th and 31st of  July. We have invited the RNLI to bring their boat along the coast to “show the flag” at the RNLI pennant race on the 6th July and they, weather and operational  requirements  permitting , have said that they will come.  We are also working closely with the Blakeney Sailing School to set up some joint activities during the season and to ensure that successful graduates from the school  who want to continue sailing are welcomed by the Club.

In order to provide something different sailing activities besides  racing, particularly for non racing club members,  We have set aside a “fun week” of sailing activities during the first week in August, if anyone has any ideas of things that we could arrange please contact me.

I look forward to the newly cleared, mown and extended Dinghy Park combined with our fleet of refurbished  rescue boats providing the basis for a good seasons sailing.

The club organises a comprehensive sailing programme on most weekends from Easter to October, peaking during the summer months with the Blakeney and Morston regattas. Click Sailing programme for more details.

A wide variety of boats are sailed by the club. From the sophisticated Phantoms and RS class boats to the more traditional classic lines of the Blakeney One designs and Cockles with their strong association with the North Norfolk coast.

Whatever you sail, the excitement of an early race followed by refreshments in the club house or a relaxing evening sail to the Point with a visit on your return to one of the fine pubs in the village, Blakeney has it all.

The club is keen to encourage new members, if you have not tried racing before, Blakeney is the ideal place to learn. The impression that racing is the domain of the serious expert is just not the case at Blakeney. The spacious harbour is the ideal venue to learn, with safety boat cover and a wealth of local knowledge to tap into why not give it a try. The skills learned will also come in useful for those trips out to see the seals.
