Briefing Spring 2011
Blakeney Sailing Club Spring Briefing 2011
Carnser Clear up
A record number of members were enticed by the prospect of bacon butties, mince pies and mulled wine to help with Carnser clear up on the 10th of December. As always there are a few boats that appear to be abandoned. These were removed to Perry Long’s field in January. It always amazes me the number of people that seem unable to look after their boats.
Charles Arundel’s family are keen to have a commemorative seat on the Carnser in his memory and we have agreed with the Parish Council a nice position overlooking the harbour near the hut.
Members are reminded that boats can be put on the Carnser after the 1st of March for the 2011 season and not before.
Sailing programme
Whilst the rest of us have been hibernating during this freezing winter, Sean Moore has been busy putting together the sailing (and now social) programme for 2011. Enclosed with this newsletter is the current draft of the programme. You will see that we start the season at Easter, which is late this year. We are hosting the International 14s in June (hopefully the weather will be better than September 2010 when high winds led to the two days racing being cancelled) and the North West Norfolk Week on the 3rd of August.
Building on the success of a variety of sailing and land based activities of previous years, the fun week - the first week in August - now has the addition of a cricket match against the Cockle club on Saturday the 6th in the afternoon of the first day of the Blakeney Regatta.
Sean has also, for the first time, included a number of social events, including tennis and golf, during the racing week commencing 13th August, which concludes with the Hog Roast on the Saturday and the Morston Regatta at 10am on the Sunday.
We made good progress on the club house, rescue boats, chains and flag pole on the Carnser during 2010. And we have recently purchased a new engine for one of the rescue boats just before the increase in VAT. However we need to put down some more chains, spruce up Lapwing and finish off the club house this year. There is usually a core team of people who can be relied on but we do need some more volunteers. Please let me know if you can help.
I look forward to another summer’s sailing and hope the weather is kind to us this year.
